UV-curable paints and coatings suitable for metal substrates such as steel (untreated and phosphate treated), galvanized steel, and aluminum are a relatively new development. Formulators now have UV-curable products made from new and better raw materials (longer wavelength photoinitiators and hyperbranched oligimers and monomers) which result in minimal shrinkage, maximizing adhesion to the metal and increasing corrosion resistance.
For over 20 years Heraeus Noblelight America has built UV curing systems for metal pipe coating. Metal nameplates and identification tags have been silk screened with UV inks for many years now. In more recent years we are building UV curing systems for a wide variety of metal parts such as propane tanks and automotive components which often require 3D curing techniques. We work very closely with the customer and the formulators specializing in direct-to-metal UV coatings to develop a solution to meet your needs.
