ClearClad Coatings

The Customer Problem

"A plumbing fixture company asked ClearClad to shorten its part of the production time on 3D ABS-grade plastic parts. In conjunction with our coatings and using Fusion UV curing lab, the preliminary indications are that we can reduce the present total curing time per unit from 2 1/2 days to 90 seconds." 

 

The Fusion UV Response
ClearClad Coatings had been using solvent-based coatings on ABS plastic faucets that required 2 1/2 days to reach complete cure. By switching to UV curable coatings, the cure time has been reduced to 90 seconds from 2 1/2 days. Fusion Applications Lab ran several tests to establish the cure parameters and to show the benefits and economic advantages of UV curable coatings on ABS plastic.
 

 

OSRAM Sylvania 

The Customer Problem
"At OSRAM Sylvania, we design and produce the Halogen Interchangeable Light Sources for which several automobile manufacturers offer warranties extending for thousands of hours. Because of the high demand for the Halogen Interchangeable bulbs, we needed a fast curing sealant to maintain production speeds. We worked with Fusion UV's Applications Lab to optimize cure time, lamp height and other conditions as part of our design of a commercially successful operation."
 

 

The Fusion UV Response

OSRAM Sylvania needed a curing system that could withstand the rigors of high-speed automation and still insure the required hermetic seal, lamp performance and filament position when installed. Fusion UVs' Applications Lab was an ideal applications development facility and provided the proper environment in which the correct process solution could be found. 

 

U.S. Can 

The Customer Problem

"At U.S. Can, we were looking for a process to improve the quality of printing on metal, achieve lower costs and reduce VOCs. We worked with Fusion lab and ran tests with our print and coverage specs and learned what UV really could do." 

 

The Fusion UV Response

Fusion's lab worked closely with U.S. Can process engineers to achieve their objectives of rapid cure, better quality printing on metal sheets, lower cost and the elimination of VOCs. The UV solution developed in the Applications Lab provided precisely what U.S. Can wanted: a high quality printing process, lower costs and the elimination of VOCs. 

 

Revlon 

The Customer Problem

"Our patented inks designed to print on various colored beverage bottles performed very well on every color except amber. Working with Fusion UVs' Applications Lab, we were able to configure a new system in two days. This system allows us to print on all colors including amber colored bottles." 

 

The Fusion UV Response

Revlon was using standard Fusion UV Systems lamps for high-speed curing of amber bottles when they encountered a problem. Because of the light filtration that occurs with amber glass, they were not achieving the cure they required on glass. They called Fusion UV. Working in our Applications Lab, we responded with an overnight solution by identifying the right UV lamp for Revlon use with its EnviroGluv technology. 

 

Werthan Packaging 

The Customer Problem

"New, UV curable coatings were introduced to provide a high-gloss finish with a wide COF range or slip angle for paper packaging products-particularly those which would be stacked. We worked with Fusion UVs' Applications Lab who helped us test these coatings and recommended the appropriate UV lamp system to cure these exotic coatings at maximum press speed." 

 

The Fusion UV Response
In stacking pet food bags with high-gloss coatings, a controlled level of friction must exist to prevent the stack of bags from collapsing. In addition, the outside coating must be fast curing, free from any VOC, and high gloss-precisely the kinds of criteria we could evaluate in our Applications Lab. Using Fusion Applications Lab, we determined the required cure conditions which enabled us to design a curing line to make the final product.
